The Kitchen Sisters

I wanted to tell everyone about The Kitchen Sisters, in case you haven't heard their stories on NPR.

They do really interesting stories about food and the culture surrounding food. For example, I met Davia Nelson when I was the Communications Manager at a nonprofit social service organization in San Francisco. Our clients who weren't homeless tended to live in the Single Room Occupancy hotels in the neighborhood, the cheapest option for people who can't pay a security deposit. SROs are just that, rooms. There is a shared bathroom but often no kitchen at all. Davia had heard that people with no access to kitchen facilities had been using George Foreman grills to make cheap meals for themselves. A product originally marketed to be a healthy accessory to a kitchen full of appliances was being used in a completely different way. Anyway, you might enjoy checking out there stuff.
